A poem about plagiarism and why there is no need to do it. Believe you are talented, in your own words and your own talent. There is no need to use somebody else's words. In the day of the internet you will only get caught and banned from the site.

Why Plagiarize

God given talent Heaven sent
Is the poetry in your heart
Better than a birthday present
It’s like a priceless work of art

What you’ve received is a valid
Precious gift from the Lord above
Like an ode, sonnet and ballad
It’s filled with emotional love

With nothing but a writing pen
You can share your heart with others
Heartfelt words will get an “Amen
From poet sisters and brothers

After reading your poetry
There will be teardrops in their eyes
With your originality
There is no need to plagiarize

God given talent Heaven sent
Is a poetic masterpiece
Like a sinner when they repent
It will give you an inner peace

As you battle your many thoughts
And draw from your experience
You will find all the words you sought
In a poem that now makes sense

With nothing but a writing pen
And the courage to stay the course
You have blessed a blank page again
By filling it with rhyme and verse

After reading your poetry
You’ll see God’sgift with your own eyes
With unique creativity
There is no need to plagiarize

First of all, let me applaud all our teenage poets that have blessed us with their wonderful and original poems. Although I wish I could place this poem on plagiarism on every topic section, I decided to place it here for a couple of different reasons. The first reason being is that it is the most read topic section on the forum. The second reason is that although anyone of any age can plagiarize somebody else's work, adults should know better and I shouldn't have to explain this to them. The third and most important reason is that almost all of the poets that have been caught plagiarizing are teenagers. The reality of the situation is there is now a zero tolerance policy against plagiarism. Don used to give members caught plagiarizing a second chance. Sadly, we have found that the majority of them only do it again. It saddens me when I see a member, that I know has posted some incredible poems of their own, get banned for passing off some one else's poem or poems as their own. In this day of the internet it is too easy to google titles or words in poems to find out if they are somebody else's work. I have had one member swear to God that one of the most classic songs of all time was her original work. This despite the fact the song was older than she was. But I am not here to judge anybody. As most of you know I will do anything in my power to help someone become a better poet. I used to impose my "unsolicited advice" on just about anybody, but after a few members told me they didn't want my advice I stopped. I now reserve it for members that have been around a while or new ones that ask for it. As some of you also know, I didn't write my first poem until I was 19. That means any of you poets that are 14, 15, etc. are years ahead of me in terms of writing. In all the poems I read of yours, I see how you all draw from your life experiences. As you get older you will have more experiences to write about and more experience as a writer. You are a very talented group of young poets and you can only go up from here. There are poetry techniques you can learn in the poetry tutorials and from other poets. Having never taken a poetry or creative writing class, I didn't even know there were different techniques. Although I have no doubt these tutorials will help you, I can't help but believe that the one thing that will help you the most is your own originality. In my book, you are all original and unique works in progress. I am blessed that this old man gets to learn lessons from all of you every time I log on. Although some of what I read is extremely sad, I feel truly blessed to have the poetic part of you in my life and on this site. Keep being the unique and original writers you are. God bless you all. Ronnie
